Justifications

Keep the coffee on table, instructed Rhea to her helper and she sat on her favorite red beanbag with newspaper to read on. Doorbell rang and the helper Jhansi opened the door to greet Mayur saying “Namaste sahib” and took a handbag from him to keep in the bedroom.

“Hey, you are back; I thought you would return tomorrow from your extended holiday trip. How was it?” Rhea hugged Mayur and again took her seating position on the beanbag. It was clear in Rhea’s eyes that she missed Mayur’s presence.

Mayur on another hand was little hesitant and was feeling guilty about his trip as he missed Rhea’s exhibition.  You know these marketing team they come up with their innovative ideas at last moment or else I would be back by yesterday and the execution was entirely depended on me and you know…”

Rhea interrupted Mayur saying, ”I asked how was your trip and not the reason for its extension. You already mentioned all these on phone 2 days back. Why are you repeating the same? I am asking how was your trip, was it a success with clients or not? Why are you giving unnecessary justifications? Is it all ok?

“Justifications! I am just saying you why I couldn’t reach to attend your exhibition and you are saying I am giving unnecessary clarifications”, annoyed Mayur said it all in one go.

“I didn’t ask for any, then why you are stating the reasons. I do understand work commitments are priority”, Rhea tone was getting harder.

“When did I say work is more prior than you”, Mayur was now all puzzled where the topic was going to end.

“I just asked you how was trip and you are answering me why you stayed back than planned, uff”, Rhea left to bedroom leaving her coffee, beanbag and confused Mayur.

Isn’t it common scenario for most of the arguments, what is questioned and what person answers is contrastingly different. Sometimes we receive justifications when they are least expected and sometimes when we need it for sure we get no reasoning.

Timing of justification is very important or else it looses its value. So next time before giving justification for any question, listen properly, analyse and then answer. If it is required then go ahead with it; if not just keep mum and avoid a situation like Mayur faced.

What are your views on justification? Have you fell prey to unwanted justifications?

  1. Awesome post. There are numerous justification given in daily life , it depends on who valued it. So, justification should be given when necessary or worthy.

  3. That's a good observation that you made and shared here. We all have given justifications at wrong times and ended up paying for it. Why are we late to work, why is the assignment not complete, why are you breaking up with me!! It's all there.

    Thanks for sharing.
