Earth Hour - Your every bit is precious !!!

The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope."- Wendell Berry. This quote says all about the movement Earth Hour; it is a movement for the planet planned by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and observed over the entire world. Earth Hour engages a huge mainstream society on a broad range of environmental issues. This movement is also popularly called as the lights- off event which was at first started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. The movement encourages turning off their non-essential lights for the hour and many individuals, communities, households and businesses follow this as a mark for their contribution towards saving planet. And from then it has grown to connect more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. The event is held world over and mostly in last week of March annually, Earth Hour 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 pm-9:30 pm, participants' local time.

Save Planet-Earth Hour
Earth Hour

Why all of sudden in past few years this movement got popularity is because there has been how the drastic changes in all fields had its impact on the climatic conditions and natural beauty. The scenic beauty of nature which used to give a soothing effect to eyes and comfort to heart are now lost amid the mostly advancing world. But it’s our duty to protect it as we keep our home away from adverse effects of environment. What our ancestors enjoyed the benefits of atmosphere, is now lost in today’s generation because we are not able to protect our surroundings. It is well quoted by Buckminster Fuller that "We are on a spaceship; a beautiful one. It took billions of years to develop. We're not going to get another. Now, how do we make this spaceship work?" Though we are advancing in many commands & streams we need to pause, think for our planet home and protecting it from all sorts of risks is the duty of every individual living on it. One such moment to preserve our planet is an Earth Hour. We at times don’t realize that each small contribution from each and every one can save a lot of energy in turn saving our ecosystem.

Now a major question which pops in our mind is does this one hour of electricity saving can really bring any difference?

All Fool's Day

One day where you can make fun and fool others, play pranks, set mischief plans, enjoy the amused expressions of others and most importantly you are not held guilty for all this when you say “April fool”.Yes 1st April is celebrated as fool’s day world over, where you celebrate thoughtlessness, silliness, madness in form of pranks. Even till date I make sure to cheer this day by doing something and by saying to believe in absurd stuff, though sometimes I end up get caught in others tricks; you need to be extra cautious as you could be others target in a plan. Most prominent factor to be kept in mind is that; this day you have to forget seriousness and rejoice to its maximum.

April 1 - All Fool's Day
Celebrating silliness on April Fool's Day
Though April fool’s Day is the day people make other fools, but few make fool of themselves unknowingly on rest of the days too. Mark Twain, Pudd'nhead Wilson quoted “April 1. This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty-four”. Fewer times people end up saying unwitting things, sometimes ignorant actions and writing can also make fall you in fool’ s category. These are most common ways people end up being in unconsciously.

Be careful with your speech: Few people, in order to get attention in a group conversation end up saying irrelevant stuff and make fool of themselves. It’s better to be quiet on a matter in which you don’t have much knowledge. Rather be observant and gain knowledge by others talk. There is saying in a Sanskrit which means half knowledge is dangerous than any sword. And Robin Sharma, very rightly said “Listen twice as you speak”, because God has given us double hearing capability (2 Ears) than speaking (1 Mouth).

Right Sense Of Humor :)

Humor is a key to unlock the door leading to a scintillating room of glee. It connects to our soul and is the best way out to lift up our mood. A person with good sense of humor is vivacious, cheerful, life of a party and fun loving. Watching humorous programs or reading a hilarious forward on our mobile phone can ease out the day and most importantly brings smile on our face. There are many comedy shows that lighten the environment around us and watching with our family fills the room with laughter.

Let us know how a little humor in life can change our world:
  • Adds Spice to life: Edward D Bono rightly quoted “Humor is by far the most important activity of the human brain”, I completely agree with this. Our mind needs some rest from monotonous activities so adding little wit and fun in life is a must and moreover a gleeful environment keeps our mind out of negativity and refreshes us.
  • Best Way to put a point: There are certain points that need not explained with rage, instead the same point said in a humorous way can bring the same effect but the advantage here is that nobody is hurt and the point is well noted by the person without any hard feelings. Humor is a rubber sword--- it allows you to make a point without drawing blood.” - Mary Hirsch. By this I remember an incident when I was in school. We were a group of five friends and used to walk to school; one of our friend always used to come late and we had to rush school to avoid the grins of principal and teachers. We all tried to convey our friend that starting early to school would make our walk comfortable and without any worries in head. But somehow she did not understand then I one day in a witty way told her “We will ask the school to run according to you as you cannot change, maybe the school changes its schedule”. We all laughed it out and then dispersed to our houses. Next morning to my surprise ,

Festival of Colors - HOLI

Every morning when I draw the curtains apart, the blue sky, orangish yellow sun shining behind the white clouds, greenery of the area and birds flying, is a beautiful picture of morning which brings pleasant smile for a day to start. “Among the several kinds of beauty, the eye takes most delight in colors” - Joseph Addison. If you look around, our life is full of colors; it’s omnipresent. Colors add so many boosts in life; imagine everything colorless, you have no color choice to pick from your wardrobe, just white or black. Though white and black colors have their own presence in the whole bunch of colors, but surely they need to be blended well with others to stand out. Johannes Itten expressed it aptly by quoting “Color is life; for a world without colors appears to us as dead”.

Colors even effect us emotionally, where Colors can essay a person’s mood; like when you are happy and excited you pick your favorite color clothes. Pablo Picasso very well said “Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions”.Some may like bright colors for their clothing while a few may opt for pastel shades. Colors are even gender biased as girls like mostly shades of pink and red, boys usually prefer blue n black. Colors also hold an importance in every culture & the color used in such occasions may vary according to culture.

Seasons too have an impact of colors, in all the seasons Spring is most colorful. During this you have all attractive multicolored flowers budding, trees filling with vibrant shades and everything is just beautiful about this season. Color festival is illustrious to mark the liveliness of colors in life, and is celebrated all over the world. Hindu spring festival, HOLI also marks this colorful start of season. It is celebrated on the fifteenth day of month Phagun according to hindu calendar. This festival is celebrated by coloring each other with powders (gulal) and colored water.

Holi is the time when everybody gets out of the dimness of winter and rejoices blends with beginning of colorful spring; it also gives you a chance to all to forget all enmity and get indulged in celebrating. Enjoy the vibrant energy of the spring.

!! HAPPY COLORFUL HOLI & HAPPY SPRING !!

I wish every one of us to get the most from this festival. Fill your hearts with so much colors, that you are never in shades of fear, anger, hate, ignorance and always with shades of knowledge, kindness, friendship, love, serene.

“Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.” - Wassily Kandinsky
