Motherhood in Metaphors: Happy Mother's Day

On Mother’s Day, words often fall short of capturing the boundless love, strength, and quiet brilliance of a mother. But sometimes, poetry steps in where language pauses.

Motherhood in Metaphors is a tribute to every mother who has ever shaped a soul, anchored a storm, and lit the first fire of belonging in a child's life. We’ve tried to capture a mother’s essence through a constellation of metaphors, each one an attempt to sketch the indescribable. A mother’s presence is rarely loud, but always life-altering—felt in tides, kites, and laughter. Through these metaphors, we celebrate her eternal imprint on our journeys.

Mothers are life

1.     The moon’s whisper to the tide

She doesn’t shout or demand, but her influence moves you. Quiet, distant at times, yet powerful; her pull shapes your path, like the moon gently drawing the sea.

2.     A hidden compass stitched into your skin

You may not always see her or even realize her essence, but her love and guidance live inside you, silently steering your decisions, your values, your sense of direction.

3.     The first fire ever lit

She is your origin of warmth and survival, igniting the first spark of love, protection, and light. Her flame, once lit, continues to burn in your heart no matter how dark the world becomes.

Mother is a bridge

4.     A bridge made of lullabies

Her voice carried you across your first fears. Every hum, every soothing word was a step toward calm. That melody still connects you to peace and safety even when she's not there.

5.     The ink in your soul’s pen

Every word you speak, every story you live, carries a trace of her. She colors your thoughts and lines your narrative with lessons, love, and memory even if her name isn't written there.

6.     A time traveler’s anchor

Life changes fast be it years, cities, stages. But she remains a constant, anchoring you in who you are, reminding you where you came from, and giving you the courage to go forward.

Mother gives you wing

7.     The echo in your laughter

Her joy is buried deep in yours. When you laugh freely, there's a note of her voice in it—her jokes, her warmth, her love for life reborn in your own happiness.

8.     The sky behind your kite

You may soar high, drifting far, but it is her unseen strength, her belief, her breath that lifts you. She holds the string, letting you fly while always being the vast, supporting sky beneath you.

9.     A heartbeat turned into hands

Her love is not just felt but acted upon every packed lunch, every held hand, every wiped tear. Her heartbeats translate into endless small acts of care and devotion.

10.  A quilt stitched from stardust

She’s crafted from magic and mystery, each patch a memory, each thread a moment of love, sorrow, joy. She wraps you in cosmic wonder and warmth, a universe made soft and safe.

A mother’s love whispers through lullabies, shines through eyes, and lives in the spaces between every heartbeat, she doesn’t need a cape to be called a hero. This Mother’s Day, as we reflect on the theme of resilience and recovery, we honour every mother who became a teacher in the living room, a healer in times of fear, and a pillar of strength in her community.

May we pause to recognize the quiet wonders she weaves into our everyday lives often invisible, always invaluable. This
Mother’s Day we appreciate the bridges, the skies, the compasses, and the constellations we call “Maa”; thank you for being both the metaphor and the meaning.
